The School of Biotechnology Holds the First Training Session on Quality Assurance and Accreditation

In January 2023, the Biotechnology School established the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) led by Dr. Abdelrahim Hassan, Professor of Food Safety and Technology, Nile University. QAU aims to implement a proactive quality assurance system, improving the institutional and academic performance of the Biotechnology School, and qualifying the school for accreditation by the national and international accreditation bodies.

At this end, QAU is going to hold forthcoming workshops to increase the awareness of the Biotechnology school members about quality and the requirements for accreditation from the National Authority of Quality Assurance and Accreditation for Education (NAQAAE) and other international accreditation bodies.

On March 6th, 2023, the QAU of Biotechnology School held the first training session on Quality Assurance and Accreditation. The info session was delivered by Dr. Abdelrahim Hassan, professor and director of the QAU, and was attended by all Biotechnology School faculty members and teaching assistants.

During the session, Dr. Abdelrahim Hassan, provided insight into the definitions of quality and quality assurance according to NAQAAE and other organizations. Then, he talked about the eleventh quality management principles of educational enterprises, including a focus on learners, visionary leadership, engagement of people, process approach, improvement, evidence-based decisions, relationship management, social responsibility, accessibility and equity, ethical conduct in education and data security and protection. The concept of accreditation and its various types, in addition to standard definition, were then illustrated during the session.

Following that, Dr. Abdelrahim Hassan gave a brief introduction about NAQAAE’s background and both of its institutional and program accreditation standards. From this point, he explained the academic standards and the difference between NARS and ARS as concepts. He ended his speech by illustrating the mission of Biotechnology School’s QAU and the procedures for Biotechnology school accreditation, “which needs the participation of everyone in the school,” he mentioned.
