Biotech Students Go on a Field Trip to Juhayna Food Industries

Biotechnology is known to play a huge role in the food industry and particularly the dairy industry. Some of the developments in biotechnology have helped enhance the quality of dairy products, prolong their shelf-life, and increase their nutritional value. For this reason, the NU School of Biotechnology organizes field trips to show students the possible venues they can have an impact on after graduation.

As part of these efforts, on the 27th of February, Biotech students went on a field trip to Juhayna Food Industries factory located in the Industrial Zone. During the visit, the students met the director of the Juhayna factory who gave a presentation on the history of Juhayna brand and the factories.

The students then went on a tour around the factory where they visited the facilities dedicated to the production of fermented products, such as the iconic fermented drink, Zabado. The students were also shown the technology with which products from Juhayna are protected from spoiling.

During the visit, the director of the Juhayna factories announced the availability of training opportunities for distinguished Biotech undergraduates. These internships would later on open up employment opportunities for the students after graduation, and would help them kick start their careers.
