Saad Abdelwakeel succeeded in getting an invitation to the group for Medical Systems Biology within the Lübeck Institute for Experimental Dermatology, as a visiting Ph.D. scholar. The Lübeck Institute for Experimental Dermatology (LIED) at the University of Lübeck and the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), the second-largest hospital in Germany investigate complex diseases, such as cancer, autoimmunity, and neurodegeneration, using integrative analysis and machine learning on multi-Omics data, comprising genetics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, proteomics, and the microbiome. He is currently a bioinformatics master's candidate at the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University in comparative genomics and transcriptomics studies on some plant species. He also earned his bachelor's degree in Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University.
He gained a life-changing experience during his graduation project “Application of culturomics approach to explore the plant microbiome with the aid of molecular biology techniques”. The research experiences gained during the project positively impacted his scientific questioning, thinking, and reasoning. For this reason, he pursued the advanced post-graduate courses in Horticulture Genetics and Biotechnology at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, Chania, Greece, where he also experienced an international research environment and gained experience in intercultural communication and collaboration. Finally, he has published two articles and a poster at an international conference.
