NU School of Biotechnology Hosts a Workshop by the African Biogenome Project
The School of Biotechnology at Nile University hosted the practical sessions of the “North Africa in the Age of Biodiversity Genomics” workshop organized by members of the African Biogenome Project (AFRICABP).
AFRICABP is a pan-African effort that aims to establish genomic data of thousands of species for the enhancement and sustainable use of agriculture and biodiversity across Africa.
This was a 5-days hybrid workshop featuring distinguished international speakers and hands-on practical sessions hosted at NU and moderated by the school's Vice Dean Dr. Asmaa Abu Shady as a member of the consortium.
The workshop was a huge success and participants learned about the various bioinformatics tools used in DNA barcoding for marine conservation and biodiversity.
As part of the workshop, a dissemination session on the OPPM project was provided by Dr. Asmaa Abu Shady, as a member of the AfricaBP and OPPM consortia. The lecture provided insights on the launch of the OPPM diploma and MSc program as an opportunity for graduates of medicine, pharmacy and biotechnology to undertake a world-class curricula implementing pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine for the first time in Egypt and the Middle East.
