About Program
Applied Biotechnology Major is an interdisciplinary field that applies technology to biology to improve the quality of human life by developing innovative products that help maintain the planet's health. Examples include bio-based vaccines, advanced and more accurate diagnostic tools for diseases in humans and animals, alternative fuels based on corn or sugar cane, crossbred harvests that resist pests, and decreased dependence on chemical pesticides.
Mission
Applied Biotechnology aims to tool students with multidisciplinary training in applied biotechnology sectors and appropriate communication skills and provide scientific and business communities with highly skilled individuals for employment in this vital field.
Skills & Career Path
The set of skills that Applied Biotechnology students will acquire are the following:
- Principles and practices of different biotechnology techniques: Real-Time PCR, Genome Analysis, Sequencing, and (Southern, Northern, and Western) Blotting.
- Immunodiagnostic methods include immunoblotting techniques.
- Application of Bio-nanomachine for biomolecular structure determination.
- Basic knowledge and skills for the successful cultivation of animal and plant cells and tissues.
- RNA editing techniques.
